The chamber orchestra Giovanni Battista Polledro

Cultural promotion, passion, growth, talent.
The Association “Orchestra da Camera Giovanni Battista Polledro”was founded in 2012 by a group of music lovers from Turin. It is a non-profit association with legal personality recognized by Regione Piemonte and operates in cultural promotion. It aims, in particular, to promote and spread the musical arts, orchestral training and talent of young performers.
The orchestra’s repertoire is very wide and extends from the masterpieces of the Baroque to those of the 900. It also promote and popularise sacred music, in collaboration with local choirs.
It is in the interest of the Association to disseminate unpublished musical rarities, including the compositions of Giovanni Battista Polledro, the last great representative of the Piedmontese violin school, to which the orchestra is entitled.
The support for the new artistic blood is one of the pillars of the project, which uses exclusively the contribution of young musicians who can boast collaborations with famous and important Italian and foreign musical institutions.

Giovanni Battista Polledro

He was a pupil of G. Pugnani. In 1797 he performed for the first time in public, thus starting a prestigious concert career that led him to Russia, Germany, France and England.

In 1812, in Karlsbad, he performed a youthful sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven accompanied on the piano by the same author.

From 1814 to 1823 he was Konzertmeister of the Dresden Court Orchestra. After his return to Italy he was appointed by King Carlo Felice, first violin of the chapel and conductor of the orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin.

His work includes symphonies, concertos and some series of variations for violin and orchestra, trios, duets, studies, as well as a Missa solemnis. In it the influence of the classics is felt above all at a formal level, although you can see references to the virtuosity peculiar to the Italian violin tradition.

Mr Polledrone offered me his collaboration. Once he got over his usual nervousness, he sounded good.
